Kamdyn won the Spelling Bee for her class several weeks ago. We were so PROUD!! Once she won, we had a huge list of words to study in order to prepare for the school Spelling Bee. The school Spelling Bee had 28 children. One winner from each class in grades 2nd-5th. The words these kids had to learn were unreal! Some of them we had never even heard of and some of them we had no idea how to pronounce. We had to use google to hear the pronunciation. We had prepared Kamdyn prior to the Spelling Bee. We wanted her to do her best, but we assumed that a 2nd grader winning was next to impossible. Much to our surprise, this girl rocked!! She made it through to intermission when 16 were left. Then she made it to the final 10. Then the final 6. When she made it to the final 3, we were amazed and so proud!! Unfortunately, she over-analyzed her last word "cumbersome" thinking that it was too easy to be spelled the way that she thought because they were in the "difficult" words at that point. She was 3rd! The winner was a 5th grader.
Kamdyn spelled charioteer and many other difficult words. Her heart was broken when she walked off of the stage. She knew exactly how that word should have been spelled. I think she was disppointed. She never expected to get so far and when she did, she started believing that she may WIN. We were so proud of her and tried our best to console her. Her teacher was there to cheer her on and was so glad that her 2nd grader had made it so far! Mrs. Sidney had a little celebration for Kamdyn the next day with doughnuts. Kamdyn got to have four doughnuts and everyone else got two. Several students thought this was unfair. Her teacher said, "If you can spell 'charioteer' then you can have more doughnuts, too!" Way to go, Kamdyn!! We love you to the moon and back and know that you will win the school Spelling Bee before you leave Elementary School!!
