Cravin Melon

Cravin Melon is a college band that was popular when Kim and I were in college. They played bars, festivals and opened for some bigger names like Hootie and the Blowfish. College was a great time in our life. Lifelong friendships. Big adventures. Stuff I wouldn't even write in this blog. Cravin Melon provided a soundtrack to a lot of those fun times with a unique sound.

They recently put together a bit of a reunion tour. We went to see them at RJ Rockers in Spartanburg in the middle of an activity filled weekend. Mr. Potter, a former roommate in the time mentioned, and his lovely wife joined us in their home base of Spartanburg. First time out and about in Spartanburg in years. I learned that Spartanburg is home to the biggest gamecock tatoos available. Saw one dude with a tatoo of the cockroack stadium on his leg. How dumb would you have to be to choose to put a stadium where the resident team has not won anything of note in its existence? Can you imagine what tattoos were considered but he passed on?

This is them now. Not sure how they aged and we didn't. Weird.

Eric Church

We had a NC invasion. The Chief brought his band and the Kirk's brought a bunch of kids. Eric Church is a regular on the Terry speakers. We got tickets months ago and the Kirks and Potters joined us. We hydrated in downtown Greenville and joined the Chief for a 3 hour show. Now, tickets weren't cheap, but hardly anyone plays 3 hours with an intermission and encore anymore like the good ole days. Eric Church delivered and a good time was had. Shout out to Sandy for supervising 5 kids till 1am!

Spring Break 2019

The young'uns are at a perfect age for family adventures. This year we decided to try out the Great Smoky Mountains. We hung out in Gatlinburg. Stayed in Pigeon Forge. Attended a Country Music dinner show. Spent a full perfect day at Dollywood with short lines. Kamdyn braved all the roller coasters my 40yr old head could take. Ole Kamdyn is getting brave in her old age. It only takes me 5-10min to talk her into adventures where it used to take hours and a tear! The day after Dollywood we got up early (thanks Dad) and drove to Cade's Cove in the Smoky Mt National park. We saw lots of wildlife and the weather was wonderful. Its great to spend time in the great outdoors. The kids had to pay attention because there was zero cell service (as planned!). On the last day we hung out with the Holcombe clan. We went to an overpriced place called The Island. Tourist trap. Dont go. But if you do, drink the pickle moonshine. Yeah, I didn't think so either. The drive home was scenic. I hope the young'uns will agree to more mountain time.
