We were so excited to be able to travel to Arizona to see Clemson play in the College Football National Championship game. I really thought I would never see the day that Clemson would be playing in this game. What I did know was that it was an event that we didn't need to miss if at all possible.
We arrived late Saturday night after a few travels woes filled with delays and missed connections. I couldn't wait to get in the bed that first night.....so I don't really even count that first night as a day in Arizona. I just needed sleep!
Airport selfie!
Day 1 REALLY started with a funny trip to McDonald's. These silly boys!! At least we all ended up with a biscuit despite the tomfoolery that occurred at the McDonald's. Who videos somebody ordering at McDonald's anyway?
After our calorie filled McDonald's breakfast (we had McDonald's a lot while we were there), we headed to the airport to get Matthew and Holly. Then we were off to pick up our parking passes for the game. But, first, we had to get a few selfies!!
Next, we rounded up the rest of the gang and made our way to downtown Phoenix for football festivities. We ran into some of Clemson friends there, too!
We hung out at the Tilted Kilt for most of the day. It took a while for us to get a table for our big group because it was first come, first serve. Allison and I managed to walk up on a spot at just the right time!! We enjoyed lunch and lots more selfies!! See the theme here??
We tried to get into the FanFest so that we could see the Clemson pep rally, but the line to get tickets was WAY too long. Instead, we walked around for a while before making our way back to our other peeps at The Tilted Kilt.
When we got back to the bar, we saw this guy with this crazy orange bowl hat on! I HAD to try it on....so I walked right up to him and asked if I could wear it for a picture. That thing was H-E-A-V-Y! I have no idea how he balanced it on his head the entire day. I even saw him on the huge screen at the actual game wearing this crazy thing!!
Selfie with one of my favorite high school buddies, Brent!
Then we ran into another high school friend, Carlos! We were super excited to see him!
Having fun with ACC!
Fireball, y'all!!
Whew!! What's the code word Holly???
Group selfie!!
It's hard getting everyone to look at the camera at the same time, but I really don't know why!
Next, we made our way to the stage area that The Tilted Kilt overlooked. We had to find a good spot for the John Cougar Mellencamp concert. Just as we came off the escalator from the Tilted Kilt, I ran right into Ann Perri!! So excited!!
Set. Hike!
Group selfie again!!
I have no idea what Shannon was talking about here, but everyone was interested!
Yahooooo!! Who's excited??
Looks like we all were!!
Lucky to have an awesome SIL!!
Sing it, JCM!!
Crazy cats!
When the concert was over we made our way back to The Tilted Kilt where we proceeded to have a super fun time. We had a big day the next day so we couldn't stay out too late. We finally rounded up enough peeps to fill a mini-van and made our way back to our house in Glendale. It was a great first day!! We could barely sleep in anticipation of the next day!!
I called Nanny and Georgia before we ever won in Miami to see if they would keep the girls if we got to go to Arizona. I'm so thankful that they both said YES!! Nanny arrived for Kamdyn's first basketball game of the season. We won 42-8. They actually stopped keeping score because we were winning by so much! We literally had to run out of the basketball game that ended at 1:00 to get to the airport to catch our flight that left at 2:45. We made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare. In fact, we boarded the plane early and then had to sit on the plane for an hour because of snow in Chicago. Grrr!!
Thank you, Nanny, for keeping our girls that weekend and thank you, Georgia, for keeping our girls that week. It was a "once in a lifetime" event and we are so glad that we were able to be there in Arizona to witness it!
